A small firm that writes the proof before the code.
Skyla Autonomous Systems LLC was founded in 2024 in Kendall Square, Cambridge, by engineers who had spent their careers making distributed systems behave, and who saw agents about to repeat every mistake those systems had already made.
Why we started.
In early 2024, teams around us were wiring language models straight into payment rails, ticketing systems and cloud consoles. The demos were dazzling. The failure modes were familiar: retries that doubled a charge, two workers racing on one record, a log that could not explain what had happened at 3 a.m.
Those are old problems with known answers. State machines, idempotent commits, capability security and append-only logs have kept databases and consensus systems honest for decades. Skyla exists to bring that discipline to agents, without asking anyone to give up the models that make agents useful.
Elena Rostova, Chief Systems Architect.
Elena's doctoral work was on model checking for distributed consensus protocols: proving that a cluster of machines could never disagree about what had been committed, however messages were delayed or lost. She then spent nine years building replicated storage and transaction systems at cloud scale, where she led the team that wrote formal specifications for every new protocol before implementation began.
She describes her job at Skyla simply. “The model is allowed to be wrong. The runtime is not. My work is making sure we can show the second part to anyone who asks.”

How we build.
Every state machine in the runtime has a formal model, and every release is checked against it before it ships. We test with deterministic simulation: the whole system runs inside a seeded harness that injects network faults, slow disks and hostile tool responses, and any failure can be replayed exactly.
We are deliberately small. A customer's first conversation is with an engineer who will also write code for them, and that stays true for as long as we can manage it.
Who we work with.
Our customers are teams in financial services, healthcare and infrastructure who already know what their agents must never do and need a way to make that knowledge enforceable. They tend to have auditors, on-call rotations and long memories.
We are not the right fit for every project. If an agent's worst outcome is a clumsy paragraph, you do not need us. If its worst outcome is a wire transfer, a medication order or an outage, we should talk.
Find us in Kendall Square.
We work from 355 Main St, Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA 02142, a short walk from the Kendall/MIT Red Line stop. Visits are by appointment. Design reviews often happen at a whiteboard here, and we are happy to host your engineers for a working session on a real workflow.
Engineering inquiry.
Tell us about one workflow and the outcome you most need to prevent. The form opens a pre-filled email in your own mail client, so nothing passes through a third-party service. You can also write to systems@skyla.ai.
